The effects of calcium on the growth of cucumber seedings were studied.Solution culture was conducted to study the effects of calcium-deficiency on the growth of cucumber seedings.The results showed that under the calcium-deficient conditions the growth of seeding was seriously inhibited,the leaf number,leaf area,root length and root activity in the seedings were obviously lower than those under calcium sufficiency,POD activity decreased and O 2- content increased in calcium-deficient cucumber seedings.The study suggested that calcium played an important role in the growth and antioxidant systems of cucumber seedings.
