Genetic engineering is a new method to create transgenic rice with foreign genes from other species. This method could be helpful to increase rice yield, quality and resistance to stress. Progress in research of transgenic rice, existed problems, prospects in the future, as well as biological safety problems and countermeasures were reviewed in the paper.
