Sucrose transporters are responsible for trans-membrane translocation of sucrose, and play impor-tant roles on phloem-mediated source-sink sucrose transportation and supply sucrose to sink tissues. The ZmSUT4 gene was subcloned from Zea mays inbred line Ji 853, termed ZmSUT4-J. The sequence analysis revealed that ZmSUT4-J has an open reading frame(ORF) of 1506 bp and encodes 501 amino acids residues. The predicted proteinhas 12 transmembrane domains according to the bioinformatics analysis. Using tissue expression pattern analysis,this gene was proved to be specifically expressed in young leaf. To elucidate biological functions of ZmSUT4, the ex-pression vector for transformation to monocot plants was constructed.
