Abstract:The aim of the study was to explore effects of water extract of Perilla frutescens(L.) Britt. on blood lipid and antioxidant function of hyperlipidemia mice. SPF healthy male mice were divided into normal control group and hyperlipidemia group, respectively. They were fed with common feed and high fat diet for 8 weeks, then their bodyweight and serum lipid levels were measured to determine whether the mouse model of hyperlipidemia mice was established successfully. The hyperlipidemia modeling successfully mice were divided into model group and low, medium and high dose group, which were administered with normal saline 10 m L/kg·d, and water extract of Perillaefrutescens(L.) Britt. 3 g/kg·d, 6 g/kg·d, 9 g/kg·d for 6 weeks. Blood lipid and antioxidant indexes in serum and liv-er were measured at the end of the experiment. The results showed that the water extract of Perilla frutescens(L.)Britt. reduced cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, and increased high density lipoprotein cholesterol level in serum of hyperlipidemia mice, and increased catalase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde inhibitory activity in serum and liver. The high dose of water extract of Perilla frutescens(L.) Britt. hypolipidemic and antioxidant effect was the best. The water extract of Perilla frutescens(L.) Britt. has significant hypolipidemic and antioxidation of hyperlipidemia mice.
