By means of cutting spike, bagging, fertilization and measurement, the traits of sorghum male sterile line ‘Ji 2055 A’, were studied, including stigma exsertion, stigma thickness, stigma viability and stigma extension length. The results showed that the above mentioned stigma traits of ‘Ji 2055 A’were significantly better than other sterile lines, which was one of the main reasons why ‘Ji 2055 A’can be widely applied in production. Therefore, excepted for emphasizing on the traits of plant and yield, the selection of sterile lines in sorghum breeding should also pay attention to the special traits such as stigma exsertion, stigma viability and stigma extension length.
